If what left the house is properly recorded — itemised, labelled, photographed, and tied to a location in storage — then a pack-out is a safe and controlled process. Ask how the inventory is produced and ask to see it. A pack-out is one of the few points in a restoration where a homeowner can meaningfully protect their own interests just by asking a direct question at the right moment.
What to keep out, and why it matters more than people expect
Restoration timelines run long. Before contents are packed, walk the property and pull out what you will actually need during the repair period: current medication, documents you may be asked for, tools, seasonal clothing for the months the work will span, chargers, and anything a child in the household will notice is gone.
Minnesota adds a specific version of this. A pack-out that begins in September and finishes in January means winter clothing, boots, and coats have to come out first, and a surprising number of households discover that only once the temperature drops.
